Capricorn New Moon 1/16-17–The Gift of Resistance

  • by

Finding a path of aligned purpose often means seeking the open doors. These gaps are stepping-stones leading in an inspired direction of flow and change. Things just fall into place, the right people appear, the money shows up, and the time is right.

But the closed doors, perhaps not nearly as pleasing to our egos, are just as important. We often need to experience what we don’t want, to realign with what we do. We often need the divine wakeup call that allows an ending where we may not have the strength or consciousness to do it on our own.

Capricorn teaches through the closed doors of limitation. This New Moon we have six planets there (not to mention Saturn in Capricorn).

So, we are getting a hefty dose of Capricorn.

What feels like a failure to the ego, is often a favor to the soul.

I often wonder if the universe looks down at us and wonders, “Well that’s one way to get there” as we take the loooong road to our destiny. Capricorn energy is that candid friend that says, “Hey, this is the fastest and most efficient path to your destiny”. Often though, it is about as subtle as a door slamming in our face. Capricorn is refreshingly realistic albeit sometimes painfully straightforward after all.

The location of Capricorn in your chart is where you will likely be experiencing the closed doors and the call to re-evaluate that particular area of your life. (This New Moon is 26 degrees Cap ). I write this after discovering my computer mysteriously crashed, and a work project I was working on disappeared inexplicitly. This event following a traffic snarl that made me late (for the first time) for work, combined with a glitch in my computer scheduling software where I have to start over.

Resistance?

Absolutely.

Where is this New Moon in my chart? The 10th house. The house of work. Exactly where and what I need to evaluate.

Resistance is a call to pay attention, get curious, and wake up. It is a clear signal to evaluate whether to persevere and push through or let go.

An opportunity to reveal…
if you are aligned with soul or ego goals.
If the end of our journey does, in fact, justify the means.
If where we are heading is actually, where we want to end up.

Capricorn is the area of our greatest mastery but also our greatest insecurity. It is how we are meant to develop and claim authority despite the whisper of our ego fear. Capricorn works with the opposite sign of Cancer to balance the ebb and flow of co-creation.

Desire meeting form.
Emotion meeting reason.

The balance of these two is the energy with which we are dancing. Too much Cancer and we are without boundaries, swept away by our own story, emotions, and collective empathy. Too much Capricorn and we are exhausted trying to micromanage the river, depressed, hopeless, and numb. The trick, of course, is to have one foot in the river of emotion and one foot on dry land, gleaning the wisdom of both.

All this Capricorn energy means we are rooted in reality in which we will not be able to look away. Our world may feel a bit stagnant; a bit depressed even hopeless. (Especially you air and fire signs). Maybe we have a lingering illness, our relationship is going through a tough time, or that job interview didn’t go so well. Maybe we get a notice on our phone that a ballistic missile is heading our way, as many did in my home state of Hawaii. Reality checks are meant to get our attention. The intent is to alert and awaken us to a needed change that will ultimately lead us away from any lingering heaviness of fear and into the light of purposeful destiny.

What is the message in the resistance?

Capricorn offers blunt truths that are often inconvenient to the ego but totally aligned with the soul. It is like being in a relationship you know you need to end but wanting to be the one to end it. Having decisions made for us, no matter how right they are, bruise our ego and rock our sense of security. So much so that we can push into the resistance ignoring the burning of our soul muscles and the opposition showing up everywhere. Steadfast and strong, Capricorn will outlast any defiance unrooted in truth.

The New Moon is like a birth chart for the lunar month setting the seed of intention. Something significant needs to shift in your life and the signs are showing you just what it is. Capricorn tells it to us straight, like the friend we love because they tell us the truth but also sometimes avoid for the same reason. We cannot run from reality though. It just rings louder next time.

Capricorn offers the gift of clarity. It is as if we awaken from a dreamy haze and see the world with precise focus. There is work to be done and great wisdom to be had. Capricorn is the sign of significant change- slow and steady-the kind that takes trust, discipline, and commitment.

The kind that lasts.
